Repairing Vaulted Ceilings and Walls

In this house the walls and ceilings had only been dry lined (Taped and Joined) meaning they have never actually been plastered. The joins of the plasterboard have a slight recess and a paper tape and filler is applied over the top before sanding and painting. This is how the majority of new build houses are constructed however they do have some common issues. The main one being the tape comes away from the boards and can be visible along the joins, they can also crack easily with the heating and cooling of the room and settling of the building. Here we had both of these issues so we were tasked to make good by plastering the vaulted ceilings and walls. We cut away the existing paper tape and prepared all of the surfaces for plastering. The curved windows are a big feature in the room and due care and attention was given to them to make sure they were perfect. We removed the old curved paper bead with a plastic curved bead ready for plastering. After finishing the main plastering we repaired the walls that weren’t fully plastered to make sure no old screw heads were visible. These type of rooms are becoming ever more popular and working with the angles and reveals is a challenging and interesting job.
