Fireplace repaired and fireproof plastered

Wood burning stoves are becoming evermore popular but the issue with normal plaster is that it simply cannot handle the temperatures put out by the fireplace. This leads to cracking and crazing of the plaster and in some cases the plaster will fall away from the wall or plasterboard. Here we have a fireplace that was fully repaired and then plastered correctly using Sika Heat Proof Plaster. We firstly rendered the inside and outside areas level and flat using a standard Sand and Cement mix but with added lime for breathability. Then after a week of curing the fireplace was plastered with the standard multi finish above the mantle and side. The inside of the fireplace and areas directly outside had the specialist heat proof plaster applied. This can withstand temperatures up to 650 degrees so can easily cope with the heat of the fire when installed. Once dry it can be painted as normal. The customer as very happy and can’t wait to get the fire installed.
